Auf Deutsch lesen: Getufteten Teppich pflegen und reinigen: So bleibt er lange schön
A tufted rug is handmade, but it isn't fragile. A few simple habits will keep it soft and colourful for a long time.
Regularly: get rid of dust
- Shake it out: small rugs can simply be shaken outside.
- Vacuum gently: use a low setting with no rotating brush, so the yarn doesn't get pulled out.
- Wall pieces: vacuum carefully now and then, or use a soft brush.
For stains: quick and gentle
- Dab, don't rub: soak up liquid straight away with a clean cloth. Rubbing pushes the stain deeper into the yarn.
- A little water, mild soap: a slightly damp cloth with a little mild detergent is usually enough.
- Let it dry well: lay the rug flat somewhere airy, not on a radiator.
What to avoid
- Washing machines and soaking: glue on the back holds the yarn in place, and lots of water and spinning aren't good for it.
- Bleach and harsh cleaners: they can damage the colours.
- Constant direct sun: strong colours can fade over time.
Loose threads and uneven spots
If a thread sticks up, don't pull it. Just snip it level with the rest of the surface using scissors. It's normal for tufted rugs and only takes a second.
On the floor or on the wall?
Many tufted pieces work better as wall art than as rugs for busy hallways. On a wall or in a quiet spot, like next to the bed, they last the longest. If you'd like to hang yours, you can add hanging hooks when you book a workshop.
